If you haven’t heard of it, it’s really time to get into it! It’s a great TV show. A ray of television sunshine. A multi-colored Prozac. A Drag Queen competition! Created, judged and hosted by the Queen of Drag Queens, the amazing RuPaul. It’s simply awesome. In this show, you’ll learn everything you ever wanted to know about drag. You’ll see tons of stars. You’ll learn about pop culture and fashion. You’ll also learn about the talent and dedication it takes to be a Drag Queen. You’ll understand why it’s an art form and why it’s important to defend it. You will meet extraordinary people who have lived through atrocious things, just because they are homosexual, and yet manage to be sensational. Some have their own universe and literally turn themselves into works of art. Others, will make you die laughing and some will even make you dream. RuPaul will ask them to do everything and will constantly put them to the test. They’ll have to act in musicals, parade, entertain and much more. In each episode, RuPaul will eliminate the one who did the worst. At the end of the season, only one will remain, the best. This is a show about art, tolerance and freedom. It is also extremely satirical and committed. For the past 13 seasons, it’s helped introduce a lot of people to Drag culture. It’s a very well known and recognized show. It’s watched all over the world and there are many spin-offs. From the season 2, the series Untucked is added. These are 20 minute episodes to watch at the end of each episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race. It is the backstage of each episode. It’s where we see who hates who and who wants to date who. It’s fun. It’s always interesting to see behind the scenes. And then you have, starting in season 4, Drag Race All Stars. This, I warn you, is unmissable. The most iconic Drag Queens from the first 4 seasons return to compete for $100,000. So, I warn you, whether it’s RuPaul’s Drag Race or Drag Race All stars, the first few seasons are, how can I put it, “rough”, especially the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. There is a 90’s filter on it that stings the eyes a bit. Personally, I like to see how things started but I would understand if you skipped the first season in either case. This will absolutely not stop you from following the other seasons don’t worry.
I sincerely advise you to let yourself be tempted by this explosion of talents and colors. Personally, I love Alexis Mateo, Ginger Minj, Kim Chi, Ivy odly and Trinity the tuck, what about you? Do you have any favorites? Don’t hesitate to tell us in the comments.
