It’s fall! The weather is getting cooler. The trees are changing colors, but more importantly, your cat is molting. Yes, twice a year, in the fall and in the spring, the cat sheds. This means that he changes his coat. In the fall, he sheds his summer coat and builds a thicker, warmer winter coat. And in the spring, he sheds his winter coat for a lighter summer coat. In both cases, during these two periods, he will lose a lot of hair.
Normally, it’s good to brush your cat once a week. It helps to remove the dirt, tangles and dead hair that are bothering and hurting him. And, it can be very painful for him. Cats have very fragile skin that opens up very easily. Some cats may even stop moving because the knots hurt so much. Brushing your cat also limits hairball vomit. Because a cat needs to be clean. It won’t stop until it gets rid of everything that’s bothering it. This can lead to diarrhea, vomiting, intestinal obstruction and anorexia. So, you will have understood, brushing your cat is important. During the moulting period, you should increase the frequency to twice a week or even daily for long-haired cats. But finding the right brush is difficult!
You have to be careful. There are a lot of gadgets for sale everywhere. We had a brush glove. It was funny and it collected hairs so we thought that everything was going well, in fact not. Our veterinarian explained to us that this kind of brush only removes the surface hairs. It doesn’t remove the hair they need to get rid of at all. She recommended this brush, the Furminator. She has the same one and I must confess that after one year of use, we are really very satisfied. We have almost no more problems with hairballs. Their coat is super, very soft and without pellicles.
What’s also nice is that it goes very quickly. In a few strokes of the brush, it’s done. One or two passes on the body and two more on the bottom of the buttocks / top of the tail and it’s over. And that’s very practical if you have, like us, a cat that doesn’t like to be brushed. As it is faster, it is much less stressful for him and he lets it happen. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that he likes it but he lets it happen. It is curved and it is very convenient to make the head. It is made of stainless steel and is BPA free. It is pleasant to hold but especially there is a protection at the level of the blades as on the clippers. This way, we are sure to never cut the skin. On the other hand, you have to be careful not to do it too much. The brushing should not be too long and too intense. You should limit yourself to ten minutes and a few strokes of the brush even if your cat likes it or it will quickly be shorn like an egg…
9/10
I really recommend it. I give it 9/10 because I leave myself some margin and I don’t like the color but sincerely it is the only thing I have to reproach it. This one is made for small shorthair cats but the brand makes for all types of cats. I hope this article will be useful to you. I say to you and to your companions soon.
